GENERAL INFORMATION
Since its inauguration in 1961, the Philamlife Theater has been the premiere venue for many artistic performances. The theater is most admired for its near-perfect acoustics making it an ideal venue for symphony orchestras, chamber orchestras, solo classical performers, choral groups, recitals, and musical productions. The theater is also used for seminars and conferences as well as graduation programs.
The theater walls are lined with mural carvings by Jose Alcantara depicting Philippine history and carved by artists from Paete, Laguna. Underneath the carvings is a sound-proofing system that gives the theater excellent acoustics. The floor is covered with vinyl tiles while the aisles are carpeted. The foldable theater seats are padded and upholstered in green wool.
SEATING CAPACITY
The maximum seating is 737 with seats divided into orchestra and loge sections. The seats rest on an inclined plane sloping upwards as one goes farther from the stage.
The optional stage extension referred to as the orchestra pit can accommodate 42 additional chairs but not recommended for audience use. No additional chairs are allowed inside the theater.

THEATER ACCESS
The theater has six (6) exit doors that open into the lobby. This ensures adequate space for the audience in case of emergencies.
The ideal entrance to the theater for theater audience is through the door facing the main lobby. The spacious lobby can accommodate long queues as well as cocktails during gala performances.
LOAD-IN AREA
Equipment/props/artworks brought into the building may pass through the hatchway located at the back of the theater. The passage allows only a maximum height and width of 7x7 feet (approx. 2.1 m).
Large vehicles like delivery trucks and buses entering the premises must be coordinated with the Corporate Affairs Office since parking is limited to small vehicles.
PARKING
Parking space is very limited especially during office hours. Pay parking areas are available within the vicinity. (See vicinity map.)
RISK MANAGEMENT
Equipment/props/artworks brought into the building during ingress must be accompanied by an inventory list, which must be surrendered to the theater security officers. The same inventory list will be used upon egress.
Although the theater has adequate lights and sound system in addition to good acoustics, theater lessees may bring additional lights and sound equipment to suit their requirements. Installation of these additional equipment must be coordinated with the Corporate Affairs Office to ensure safety measures are followed.
Materials of highly inflammable or explosive in nature are prohibited inside the theater. Smoking within the building is strictly prohibited.
All props must be removed from the theater and backstage area within twenty-four (24) hours following the performance. Failure to do so would authorize the Corporate Affairs Office to dispose of the said props without prior notice to the organizers.
A martial must be assigned by the lessee to secure the backstage area. Philamlife takes care, but holds no responsibility for the loss or damage to the lessee’s property, including personal belongings.
STAGE DIMENSIONS
The stage is trapezoidal in shape (a wide front and a tapered back). Dimensions are approximate. Lessees are advised to make an ocular inspection of the theater to confirm their measurements.
Width – 37ft. 9in. up to 49ft. 8in.
Front perimeter curve – 50ft. 5in.
Depth – 29ft. 10in. up to 37ft.
Height from theater floor to stage –- 3ft.
Height from stage to cloud – 18ft. 11in.
CARE OF WOODEN SURFACES
Surface of the stage floor and the upstage wall are made of varnished narra wood. Nailing on any part of the theater’s walls, floors or other surface is strictly prohibited. Hanging on the theater’s curtains is also prohibited. Stage backdrops may be hanged using battens. Free standing props are allowed.
No holes or permanent marks of any kind (including cello or double bass spikes) may be made on any wooden surface in the theater.
PIANO
Hiring of the venue does not include the use of the piano or any tuning costs. Lessees may choose to rent any of the three pianos, which are subject to availability:
- Steinway & Bros. full grand piano (for solo concerts only)
- Kawai parlor grand piano
- Winklemann upright piano
Piano tuning (by Philamlife accredited tuners only) is included in the piano rental.
No food or liquid is to be placed on the pianos.
OTHER FACILITIES
Two (2) flag poles are available for use of lessees. Flag poles in the theater are bigger that the standard size.
Nine (9) risers for choral groups are also available. These are three (3) sets of risers, each with 3 steps size 8 feet x 1 ½ feet. Height of each step is eight inches.
LIGHTING FACILITIES
Dimmer Control
The theater lighting is controlled by a Behringer Eurolight LC242 programmable control system. It has 24 channels with a 4K Lite Pater power pack.

SOUND FACILITIES
A Behringer control desk with eight (8) channel inputs is installed at the control room located at the right side of the stage. Lessees have the option to install the said control desk behind the standee rail at the rear of the theater.
There are four (4) speakers located at the cloud above the stage with one (1) woofer. Two (2) stage monitors are located on the stage wall.
Microphones
A range of wired, wireless, condenser, boom and lapel microphones are available:

1 lapel (Audio-technica)
7 two-way radios are also available. (Batteries not supplied)

Additional sound equipment
Additional sound equipment along with applicable electrical cables may be installed by the lessee but cannot be patched with the theater’s own sound system. Installation of the said equipment must be made under the supervision of the theater technician.
SOUND AND VIDEO RECORDING
The theater has no facilities for video recording. The lessee may record their own performances by hiring their own recording outfit.
For sound recording (of a concert/musical), the lessee may provide a blank cassette tape.
BACK STAGE FACILITIES
Dressing rooms
The theater has two dressing rooms (for male and female performers). The dressing rooms have lighted dressers and wardrobe rack with access to the toilets located at the back of the theater.
There are no laundry or shower facilities.
Green room & committee room
The Green Room is common to all venues and is for the exclusive use of artists, crew, staff, and their guests. There are two enclosed areas (green room & committee room) with direct access to the stage.
The backstage is also conveniently located close to the building exit leading to the parking lot.
PHILAMLIFE THEATER STAFF
The Philamlife theater has one (1) sound and light technician and one (1) service personnel. It is a general rule that lessees will not be permitted to rehearse, install props, or stage backdrops in the theater without the presence of any theater staff. This would ensure that theater regulations are observed.
Plain rehearsals must be scheduled during office hours. Otherwise, the lessee would have to shoulder the over-time pay of the theater staff.
OTHER CONDITIONS
Smoking is not permitted inside the Philamlife Building. The theater and its premises are no exception. Smokers may smoke at designated smoking areas (lagoon area or at the parking lot).
Lessees must keep their areas (especially dressing rooms) clean and tidy.
The monitoring of movement of persons within the backstage area is the responsibility of the lessee. A martial must be assigned by the lessee to secure the personal belongings of their staff and performers at the backstage area.
No food or drinks is allowed inside the theater. Food for performers (limited number only) may be allowed at the backstage with permission from the Corporate Affairs Office.
Pets, including animals to appear on stage are not permitted in the building without special permission in accordance with the regulations.
All theater lessees must observe the provisions stated herein.
