The
Philippine American Life and General Insurance Company, ("Philamlife")
has been the premier life insurance organization in the Philippines
for over five decades now. |
|
|
|
|
 |
|
|
Leading the nation's life industry with 30% share of total
premiums, Philamlife insures over a million policyholders.
It has the most extensive network of more than 200 offices
throughout the Philippines, over 8,000 sales agents and 1,000
employees. It offers the most comprehensive range of insurance
products and services.
Through
the years, Philamlife has effectively fulfilled its dual role
of providing financial protection to its policyholders, and
helping in capital formation by converting insurance premiums
into investments.
Philamlife
was founded in 1947 by Cornelius V. Starr and Earl Carroll,
two visionary men who set out to help revive the post-war
Philippine economy utilizing Filipino resources and self-reliance.
Through a nationwide campaign named "House of Savings", the
Company effectively tapped the resources of individual families
and built up a reservoir of capital that was channeled into
various industries and sectors, thus, helping spur the growth
of the economy.

to its various publics, and the 6,000-strong agency force
which brings all financial services directly to the Filipino.
Its dynamic and customer-oriented organization is led by a
Filipino management team who share the Company's dedication
to excellence and quality. The Company earned the rare distinction
of being adjudged a winner for two consecutive years in the

Philamlife
leads the Philippine insurance industry in public and private
sector investments. As a major provider of long-term funds,
Philamlife supports worthy projects through direct equity
or loan investments. It provides commercial loans to corporate
clients to finance working capital requirements, plant expansion
and modernization programs in key industries - food, beverage,
manufacturing, transportation, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals
and banking.
Philamlife's
strategic investments in road infrastructure, power generation
and export-oriented industries have hastened national and
economic development. One of its major investment projects
is the Bauang Power Plant, which helped provide adequate power
and energy to an industrializing economy.
Philamlife
is one of the major partners in the development of the Light
Industry & Science Park of the Philippines (LISP). LISP is
the first industrial estate for the purpose of selling/leasing
industrial sites and factory buildings for science and technology-based
industries, which provide thousands of jobs for Filipino workers
and millions of pesos in export revenues annually.
The
Company also reaches out to individuals' financial needs by
offering one of the best residential housing loan programs
through its long-term fixed-rate mortgage loans. It has also
extended over P1.3 billion to public school teachers for their
children's educational needs as well as to help fund small-scale
livelihood programs.
All
these endeavours enable the Company to participate more actively
in the task of nation- building and development.

Philamlife
has always lived up to its role as a good corporate citizen.
The birth of Philam Foundation in 1997 memorializes the Company's
commitment to improve the quality life of the Filipino. The
Foundation's major thrusts include human resource development,
skills building and training, and education and health care
programs. Major beneficiaries include the Punlaan School,
Mt. Pinatubo Skills Training Center and DualTech Training
Center.
Punlaan
School provides less privileged young women with livelihood
and employment skills, and proper work attitudes and values
that contribute to their economic, social, human, and spiritual
upliftment. For schoolyears 1997 to 1999, Philam Foundation
sponsored a batch of 39 scholars in Food & Beverage Services.
The scholars were immediately hired by hotels and restaurants
upon finishing the program.
The
Mt. Pinatubo Skills Training Center was established
to equip the victims of the 1991 Mt. Pinatubo eruption with
skills needed to pursue employment and to help in the rehabilitation
of their livelihood. Philam Foundation donated high-speed
sewing machines to the Training Center. For school years 1996
to 1998, the Foundation sponsored the training of over 600
beneficiaries who are now employed at various firms in the
Clark Special Economic Zone and other garment-manufacturing
firms in Pampanga and Bulacan.
DualTech
Training Center provides male high school graduates from
poor communities with the necessary technical skills for eventual
employment in manufacturing industries. In 1998, Philam Foundation
sponsored one batch of scholars to the Basic Skill Training
Program in Electromechanics.
